Situated on the corner of Goodge Street and Newman Street, the Tavern’s ground floor bar, raw bar and informal first floor dining room provide a welcome respite; a place to enjoy half-a-dozen West Mersea Native Oysters and a seasonally brewed ale, or a glass of wine (from Albarino to Zinfandel) with Blackface Scrumpets or Potted Rabbit. Newman Street Tavern’s raw bar – a 2-metre long salvaged and
restored enamel trough – holds a selection of oysters from the British coast as well as clams, whelks, cockles, crab, langoustines and sea urchins, dependent on the catch that day. Using a range of trusted suppliers forged over many years enables Newman Street Tavern to have the best produce available from around the country on any given day.
In addition to the raw bar, staples such as Hot water crust pork pie and Banbury cakes are served between lunch and before dinner, perfect for afternoon meetings or to while away a leisurely few hours. Upstairs, a dark oak floor lays diagonally across the room emerging from the fireplace at one end, while antique tables and vintage chairs have been sourced and lovingly restored and reupholstered for a very
comfortable dining room.
