I had dinner here recently as I was on my way to the cinema. It's a nice friendly restaurant but was lacking a bit of atmosphere. My husband and I couldn't work out why as it had very nice interior design, balanced menu choices and very friendly staff. On the downside, the prices were significantly higher than I felt the meal was worth - this could explain why thee restaurant was nearly empty. For example, I had king prawns with fennel in pernod sauce which although nicely presented was too creamy, the prawns didn't taste as fresh as I'd hoped and the fennel base was overpowered by the sauce. It didn't taste awful, but for the menu prices I had higher expectations. We both had burgers for mains which tasted nice but were nothing special for £9.00. The wine was good though, we had the special offer Chilean Merlot for £12.50. The dessert was amazing - sticky toffee pudding and ice cream, although it's not often I find somewhere that can't cook STP well.
In summary, I felt that the restaurant was a lovely venue, the staff were very attentive and friendly but it lacked atmosphere and the food was over-priced. The last two points are why I wouldn't recommend it to friends as I'd prefer to tell them it was buzzing and good value for money.
Nineteen offer a wide range of modern British food dishes throughout the day and night, as well as extensive wine and cocktail lists.
