Morito is the sister restaurant to Moro, the Mediterranean eatery which is conveniently located next door in Exmouth Market. If you’re unsure what Moorish food looks like, it’s essentially a mixture of Spanish, North African and Middle Eastern dishes.
Sam and Sam Clark, who run Morito, have thoroughly researched their chosen gastronomy, and dishes are bold and full of flavour. There is a no bookings policy here, just like at most tapas bars in Spain. There are also Spanish wines, beers and cocktails made with fino sherry.

A little goes a long way
The Moors ruled Spain for almost 800 years, transforming the region’s cuisine with ingredients from the Middle East and North Africa. The owners of Morito, little sister to the veteran Moro, spent months travelling through the area in a camper van studying the local cooking, and it shows in accomplished dishes like venison haunch with barberries and ‘chicharrones’ – think a more upmarket version of pork scratchings.
