Delicious Vietnamese food and the only place in London to have authentic Bun Cha Hanoi - served just as we would in Vietnam.

All In London Review

So good they named it three times... (no really, it is that good)

So good they named it three times, BunBunBun is rapidly becoming one of the Pho Mile’s favourite Vietnamese restaurants. Surrounded by so many authentic takes on one country’s cuisine, it takes some chops – no, not actual chops - to stand out.

Tucked behind a pretty standard shop front, the exterior doesn’t give much away as to what’s going on at Bunbunbun but inside they forgo the usual Kingsland Vietnamese design and opt for something contemporary. Which means simple wood tables, pared back neutral colours, plastered walls and the odd swinging light bulb. The atmosphere is more café than restaurant, which is a refreshing change from the bustle of most of the places on the Hoxton strip.

Summer rolls and chicken satay to start ticks off the classics. The satay is good but the summer rolls are great. Avoiding the prawn, we opt for the pork and the salty meat balances the sweet pickle and sprouts inside the wafer thin roll perfectly. Easily some of the best I’ve tasted on Kingsland Road.

We opt for the banh mi baguette as a main and the excellence is sustained. Both the beef and chicken fillings are grilled in sweet marinade and once again exquisitely mesh with the chilli, pickled vegetables and mayo in the buttery hollowed out baguettes. Large is a battle (you can opt for a half) but at £6/£7 this is a bargain meal. The menu also features pho, fried salt & pepper squid, curries and fish. Judging by the popularity of BunBunBun, the rest is likely as good as the food we tried.

BunBunBun has obviously had a little Shoreditch rub off on its interior choices but the food is as authentic as anything on this road. They serve great banh mi, great summer rolls and there’s a fun atmosphere to top it off.
