Glistening Ham House is located next to the River Thames near Richmond – and is a perfectly preserved memory of the 17th Century.
Inside, the rooms showcase paintings, furniture and textiles from over 400 years ago - and guided tours are available on selected days. But WAIT. Ham House is said to be haunted – primarily by Elizabeth, the Duchess of Lauderdale – but also the ghost of King Charles’ spaniel.
The latter is apparently quite a famous sight now amongst visitors (spooky), while occasionally people have heard the tap-tap-tapping of the Duchess’ silver cane while walking through the corridors. Footprints are often found by her old bed.
