Try London's most lavish afternoon tea

The bar is high...

Where: Goutea at Cedric Grolet at The Berkeley

There is a new contender for most expensive afternoon tea, with Goutea at Cedric Grolet at the superbly swanky Berkeley hotel. "Goutea" is named for the French word goûter (meaning to snack on sweets), but there is nothing bitesized about the price, which is £85 per person.

However, you do get quite a masterclass in baked artistry - Cedric Grolet is known for his trompe-l’œil creations, in other words making things that are not quite what they seem. Here the standout dish is a plump burrata that when cut open reveals a tomato gel with basil pesto.

Along with a selection of beautiful miniature pâtisserie, this is an afternoon tea you will definitely want to show off on Instagram.
