Visit the City's biggest free rooftop garden

Great views in green surroundings.

Where: The Garden at 120

When London embarked on its campaign to emulate Manhattan, instead of producing skinny, steeple-topped monoliths that reach into the clouds, we ended up with things called the Gherkin, the Walkie Talkie and the Cheesegrater.

Whether you love or hate these glass-fronted appendages, they are now part of the capital's fabric, and while they mostly house offices the garden atop the Walkie Talkie (real name: 20 Fenchurch Street) gets brownie points for being free for the general public to visit.

At 15 storeys high, you'll get a 360-degree view of the city and a walk around its wisteria and trees, which include apple, pear and fig. There is also a kiosk selling refreshments or you can buy food at the deli on the floor below.
