The former home of the Duke of Wellington is one of the most opulent historical houses in the capital, which is to be expected given its address within Hyde Park and the fact that it's historically been known as Number One London. The interior has been kept very much the same as it was in 1815, when the Duke and his men won the Battle of Waterloo; there's an outstanding art collection with pieces by Velazquez, Goya and Rubens, an impressive statue of Napoleon, ornate chandeliers and a silver-gilt dinner service. Multimedia guides give further details about what life was like for members of the Regency high society, and there are tours around the home especially for families.
