If you fancy walking around a real life fairytale castle, head to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham, which is a magnificent example of 'gothic revival' - the correct architectural term for fantasy palaces worthy of a Disney monarch. This particular building is the former home of Horace Walpole, the historian, collector, and son of the first Prime Minister of Great Britain, so as well as admiring the fantastic stained glass windows and intricate gilded ceilings, Walpole's personal collection of paintings by the masters and curiosities including a lock of Mary Tudor's hair are on display too.
