London has a fair few excellent whisky shops but Cadenheads is arguably the best, and certainly our favourite. The small Marylebone shop is exactly what you would expect from an old Scottish distillery opening up in the heart of London – think tartan carpets, dark wood and a relaxed lounge-like experience. But while the range of rare whisky is worthy of a visit, it’s the ‘live barrels’ that make Cadenheads special.
Stemming from the tradition of Scottish grocers topping up their whisky barrels to create amazingly adulterated blends, Cadenheads has its own 1842 Highland Cask barrels constantly on the go. Fill up a bottle from the barrel and parts of that blend might be older than you. Presentation bottles are available.
