Philip Mould & Co. are pleased to announce the opening of a major loan exhibition of works by Samuel Cooper, Britain's first internationally celebrated artist. The show will include portrait miniatures from the Royal Collection, national museums such as the V&A and the Ashmolean, as well as leading private collections.
Highlights will include three of Cooper's life portraits of Oliver Cromwell, which the Protector famously demanded be painted 'warts and all'. The exhibition will also feature a number of new discoveries, including a rare portrait of Cooper himself and a previously unknown likeness of Nell Gwyn, Charles II's mistress.
This ambitious exhibition, the first dedicated to Cooper since 1974, has been curated by Emma Rutherford, portrait miniature specialist at Philip Mould & Co, and will feature over sixty-five portrait miniatures.
