Monteverdi’s Vespers are generally regarded as the most ambitious religious musical work prior to Bach’s time. Composed in Mantua following the death of Monteverdi’s wife, it is an ecstatic masterpiece dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

The Vespers will be performed at Cadogan Hall on Lady Day by the ‘thrilling’ Wimbledon Choral and an array of talented soloists, accompanied by the ‘ravishing sonorities’ of Charivari Agréable, under the baton of rising star Neil Ferris.
