Join us for a special event to celebrate our latest exhibition, The Price of a Mile: Anaesthesia during the Battle of the Somme.

Hear from Dr Emily Mayhew, author of A Heavy Reckoning: War, Medicine and Survival in Afghanistan and Beyond, with a private view of images from award-winning photographer Rupert Frere, and the museum's latest exhibition, The Price of a Mile.

To be published in May 2017, A Heavy Reckoning explores trauma and medicine in wartime from the First World War to Afghanistan and modern rehabiliation centres. Dr Mayhew's talk will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with military anaesthetists, book signing and drinks reception with a special canapé menu.

The Price of a Mile is the third in a series of exhibitions honouring doctors who gave anaesthesia and pain relief during the First World War, and explores the facilities and techniques available to medical teams during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
