Showcase match for Football Beyond Borders to help disadvantaged young people in London

A line-up of London’s finest in football and music at the home of Dulwich Hamlet on May 7 play in a showcase match in a bid to raise money for a unique football education charity.

Football Beyond Borders (FBB) will take over Champion Hill stadium to host the Community Cup and fundraise for its bespoke education programmes, which put football at the centre of digitally-focused, literacy curriculum aimed to help disadvantaged young people.

As well as ex-pros, the Guardian’s Owen Gibson, YouTube sensation Hugh Wizzy and Copa90 presenters all feature in the Cup’s headline match, while FBB participants will be showcasing their work alongside plenty more entertainment, activities, prizes and refreshments on offer all day.

Gary Neville, Yaya Toure and Santi Cazorla are among those who have helped support FBB and have been interviewed by its young participants on the chairty’s very own FBBTV YouTube channel.

FBB does not charge its 400+ young participants for its weekly classroom-based lessons and football sessions, which have seen school attendance for participants increase by an average of four days per student per school year.

A participant, Mehrshad, said: “I cannot imagine my life without FBB. It would be rubbish, I wouldn’t enjoy coming to school and I would not feel as confident as I do now, I feel like I can do anything.”
