30 Years after a derelict piece of land in Walworth was turned into a community garden by local residents, Walworth Garden is delighted to announce it’s 30th birthday celebrations. We are a small charity and Social Enterprise that has been serving the community since 1987. In the hope that we can animate the garden as it looks towards it’s next 30 years, we are about to host a series of free celebratory events over the weekend of 28th July 2017. The events will be free and open to the whole community.

Each day will be filled with a variety of captivating activities that will highlight the creativity and diversity within Southwark. With live music throughout and promenade theatre, the weekend will be kicked off with a launch event to raise funds. This will include a variety of auction lots such as our own popular Walworth Garden honey and ‘make a wish’ ribbons to be placed on our new 30th anniversary Cork Oak tree (Quercus suber).

Throughout the rest of the weekend we will be providing events for the whole family to enjoy. These include a free vegetarian communal ‘eat’ using produce grown in the Garden and by the local community; a family day full of fun activities, including art workshops, face painting, a treasure hunt, learning about bees and much more. We will also be hosting a calming health and wellbeing day with yoga and pampering sessions using natural cosmetics to help you relax.

The event will be an opportunity for the community to come together and have fun; re establish links with the Garden now that it is open 7 days a week for enjoyment, plant sales and refreshments; and find out more about what we have to offer.

How can you Bee-A-Part of this celebratory event? We are looking for people to volunteer their time and expertise either in the run up to, or on the weekend itself. Are you a local business? Help by supporting an action packed weekend; donate an item or ‘experience’ for our auction or share your stories about the Garden and how it’s impacted on your life in the last 30 years, please contact us

We are generously supported by Southwark council (Neighbourhood Fund), United St Saviours and NSET.
