From superheroes, to Halloween and Carnival – masks are enchanting objects used by all cultures to impersonate others, to disguise, protect and celebrate. In this workshop, ceramicist Yanire Sylva Delgado will help you create your own hand-painted mask.
Yanire will show examples of masks from different cultures and help you to sketch out your own design. You can adapt images of various masks from different cultures to tell your own story. Will your mask be ferocious, friendly or fantastically silly? Do you want to be a hero, villain, a made-up character or your mum or dad? When you have mastered your design and created a draft version, you will learn to decorate your ceramic plate using special underglaze paints, which magically transform once fired.

After the workshop, your plate will be fired and glazed ready for you to collect (details to be given on the day of the workshop). Refreshments during the workshop, materials and firing are included.
