Community singers London Sacred Harp continue a living tradition of social shape-note singing using the Sacred Harp, a song book of folk hymns from the American South. Variously described as 'Handel for Hillbillies' and 'Musical Southern gothic', this style is characterised by raw harmonies and ecstatic, full voiced singing. Sacred Harp is not rehearsed or performed, sung solely with and for the participants. Singers of any ability and vocal range, from complete beginners to consummate professionals, are invited to take part and experience the roaring sound of the Hollow Square in the stunning acoustic of Hawksmoor’s architectural masterpiece, where London Sacred Harp will teach you the basics of the solfége shape system and get you singing in four part harmony right away. Just turn up and sing up!
