Contemporary artist Emilija Skarnulyte will present a mystical performance of dream readings at The Building Site / London Festival of Architecture pavilion, as part of the London Festival of Architecture.

Emilija’s artistic practice investigates the shifting boundaries between documentary and fiction, between ecological and cosmic forces: feeling out all kinds of nonhuman and posthuman scales, in the depths of space and time. For The Geology of Morals, Emilija Škarnulyt? will develop a celestial dream reading session which will be channeled from the subconscious layer of Earth stratum. For Emilija, dreams ponder the invisible relations between the physical world and our social imaginary, altering the notion of geological time, which has the power to influenced human relationships with history.

Through personal interpretations, she will chart the beginning of the universe towards to our present reality and beyond, to draw upon the ungrounding processes of dreams, whilst probing to invisible structures, geo-traumas and deep­time.

Emilija Škarnulyt? (b.Vilnius, Lithuania, 1987) lives in London. Recently, Emilija was commissioned by Bold Tendencies to create Mirror Matter, London (2018). She studied an MA from Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art, based above the Arctic Circle. Most recently she was awarded prizes including the Kino der Kunst Project Award, Munich (2017); Spare Bank Foundation DNB Artist Award (2017), and the National Lithuanian Art Prize for Young Artist (2016). Emilija Škarnulyt? is also a founder of Polar Film Lab in Tromsø, Norway.

The Building Site raises questions about the ownership of public space in London and invites us to reflect on the consequences of urbanisation on local communities and natural ecosystems. The installation occupies a significant section of public space, creating an alternative construction site - a signature mark for London in transition. Utilising the aesthetic of a temporary hoarding from the outside, the pavilion offers an unexpected forest-like experience from within.

We invite you to visit this hidden experimental garden in the heart of London and connect with the power of nature. Each weekend, The Building Site will host poetry readings, music performances, video screenings, and debates. During these events, visitors will have a chance to explore the diverse and unique interpretations of human relation to nature.
