The VIA Art’s Prize’s mission is to deepen cultural awareness of Ibero-American arts and cultures and encourage intercultural exchange. It is organised by ACALASP, the Association of Cultural Attachés of Latin America, Spain and Portugal, supported by People’s Palace Projects and Instituto Cervantes, and sponsored by Itaú.
As part of the VIA Arts Prize 2019 Public Programme, the Embassy of El Salvador, in coordination with ACALASP and with the participation of PHOTOWORKS, is delighted to invite you to a special panel discussion on the role and challenges of photography now.
Guest Chair of the panel is PHOTOWORKS, a platform for contemporary international photography that includes exhibitions, commissions, publishing, learning and the production of the Brighton Photo Biennial, UK´s largest photography festival.
Invited panelists include VIA ARTS PRIZE participating artists:
RATINOKO European resident since 2000 and Londoner since 2004, Salvadoran born Roberto Aguilar holds an MA from The London College of Fashion and has a prolific background in fashion photography. His artistic works experiments with traditional printing techniques and explorations of the passage of time.
ISABELA CATELAN Travels back and forth in between the UK and her native Brazil. She holds an MA in Painting from Slade School of Art, University College London. Photography is a medium to register her intimate performances where she explores her identity and traditional heritage.
STUDIO LENCA Holds MAs in Arts and Learning from Goldsmiths University of London, and Contemporary Dance from the London Contemporary Dance School. He takes his artistic name from the original Lenca people of his native El Salvador, to explore through photography alternative registries of his cultural traditions.
CLAUDIA LEGGE Based in London with international exhibitions and publications of her investigations of colour and life in motion, in places such as Cuba and the Galapagos Islands. She has also worked within fashion and costume design.
MIKE YING A native of the United States, he is currently studying for the MA in Fashion Photography at the University of Arts in London. As he evolves within fashion photography he works on a number of personal photography projects that seek to documen
