Rory Lewis, winner of Portrait of Britain 2017-19, discusses his Soldiery project, a contemporary reflection of the modern British military.
Rory Lewis is a professional portraitist who collaborated closely with the British Army on his acclaimed photography project, Soldiery. Featuring leaders and soldiers from a range of iconic regiments, the project captures the evolving face of the 21st-century British Army.
Soldiery is, in essence, living history. It includes military men and women who are esteemed, renowned, and proud in equal measure.
In this talk, Rory will discuss his photographic techniques, his experiences of working with the Army and the inspiration behind his portraits.
The talk will be set in the Museum’s Foyle Centre, where you can see newly acquired photographs by Rory Lewis on display.
