King Lear
The iconic Rose Theatre welcomes back Director Grace Wessels (former Artistic Director of the Bristol Shakespeare Festival, and Special Guest Judge for BBC program Off By Heart Shakespeare) with her fantastic new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s King Lear. House on The Hill are extremely excited to present this unique production to the London Audience.
The Kingdom of Lear is a place dominated by decadence, wealth, liquor and jazz. The aging Lear must divide his kingdom between his three daughters. When his youngest, Cordelia is unable to express her love for the King, things begin to spiral out of control. This classic tale of deceit and tragedy, with inspiration from the 1920’s era, complete with original jazz music score remains true to Shakespeare’s timeless text.
Utilizing the entire archaeological space of the Rose Theatre, this production promises Lear’s Kingdom in a way never seen before!
