Sheldon Square at PaddingtonCentral will host a unique Art Fair as part of the renowned Canal Cavalcade, a free event taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend, 5th - 7th May 2012.

Art on an Easel provides a commission free outlet for artists to sell their art direct to the art-buying and the art-loving public; while at the same time creating an opportunity to showcase their work to the art world and come face-to-face with galleries, collectors, curators, other artists, and critics.

Open to any form of artistic talent, Art on an Easel is for students and post graduates and enables artists to enter their works of painting, drawing, print making, sculpture, textiles, photography, design and multimedia. The web based platform and the launch exhibition at PaddingtonCentral intend to showcase the work of young, emerging, unrepresented artists who have not exhibited in a commercial setting before.

The submitted art will be sold by the artist themselves and they will take 100% of the sale proceeds, providing a unique experience and introduce them directly to the general public. A registration charge of £25.00 for up to four pictures is payable to cover administration but there are no other charges.

A distinguished judging committee including singer and songwriter Lisa Stansfield, former Board Trustee of Arts & Business and of the Tate Members’ Council Peter York, freelance journalist Ian Freeman who has a wealth of connections in the art world through his familiarity with YBA’s and Celebrity Chef Mark Hix will judge the art in each category and a student from each group will win the opportunity to have a solo show at the prestigious Reading Room Gallery in London’s Soho.

The niche organisation has been conceived by Jamie Dillon, Curator of Visage Gallery and Lisa Lee, owner of Tann rokka one of London’s most fashionable and talked about lifestyle stores, to respond to the urgent need within the artistic community for a new type of arts organisation. The group has been born out of frustration at the art world notoriously selecting the ''in'' artist whilst discarding those that are not deemed ''valuable''.

Jamie Dillon said “Our main aim is to open-up the art market and support all unrepresented artists, giving them the opportunity and encouragement to show and sell their works in a commercial setting but without the associated costs. Art on an Easel and the artist will work together to build a new arts organisation to support our own, and the wider, community and, in turn, help to support and encourage the artists themselves.”

He continued by saying “For the art loving public this is an opportunity to buy direct from the artist without high commission charges and support young artistic talent.”

Alison Shields, Executive Director, PaddingtonCentral said “We have always looked to encourage the arts at PaddingtonCentral, we’ve hosted and been involved in many exhibitions and initiatives over the years. Art on an Easel is a unique event and we are very pleased to host what is a very important addition to the art scene”

Directions: From Paddington Station, walk along Platform 8 about 100 metres and up the right-hand set of steps. Continue straight along the walkway following the Sheldon Square sign that leads you along that leads you alongside a towpath with the canal on your right. Before you reach the footbridge over the towpath, turn left between two large buildings
