‘Poverty czar’ and Labour politician, the Rt Hon Frank Field MP, will be the guest speaker at the Beveridge Lecture at Queen Mary, University of London on 27 March, 2013.

It is 70 years since the publication of the Beveridge Report, an influential document in the founding of the welfare state in the UK. This lecture is being held to mark its anniversary and to contribute to the current debate on future welfare reforms.

The Labour MP, who was formerly Director of the Child Poverty Action Group and held the position of Chair of Social Security Select Committee from 1990-1997 will argue that austerity actually offers the best prospect ever for serious changes to the welfare system.

The Beveridge Lecture will be held in the Skeel Lecture Theatre, People’s Palace, Mile End campus at 6.30pm. Tickets are free but you must book in advance.
