Our upcoming still life show includes recent works by a number of artists at Waterhouse & Dodd who are highly original still life painters: Karen Gunderson, Claire Jarvis, Michael Taylor & Jemimah Patterson. We also welcome a number of artists new to the gallery who add something original and interesting to the genre: Edmund Chamberlain, Stephen McKenna, Brian Sayers & Jennifer Trouton.
These group of artists were chosen because they engage with the traditions of still life painting, but do not succumb to the more decorative tendencies of the genre. Still Life painting, at its best, is far more than a pretty arrangement of colours and shapes. The role of an artist is not to simply transcribe, but to interpret and imbue subject matter with a wider meaning. This could be something intensely personal. The objects depicted may act as metaphor for a time or state of being that has a particular relevance to the artist.

This will be our last exhibition at Cork Street Gallery before our relocation to Albemarle Street in the summer and we think it is a fitting one if you get the chance to come and see the works in person. The gallery is open from Monday to Friday from 9:30 until 6pm. If you need anything further information please telephone 0207 734 7800.
