A Walk in the Park is a collection of work by Liz Loveless, a local illustrator and author, featuring screenprints and illustrations.

Liz explores subjects from unexpected angles allowing the audience to look differently at the familiar. When we are children, the world looks different simply because we see it from an adult’s knee height: Liz’s fascinating work reminds us of this and as a result, offers us a refreshing artistic perspective.

Freelance printmaker, illustrator and local author Liz Loveless studied at Central St. Martins and has worked as a commercial illustrator and in animation. She has published a series of picture books including The Bee That Sneezed, Fair du Camping and Zero the Hero. Her most recent work reflects her time working with children observing how they look at the world around them, developing what she calls a “prams eye view” series. Her titles include The Black and White Book for Babies, City Farm and A Walk in the Park – a book which has inspired the selection of work featured in this exhibition of the same title.

Liz uses screenprint and printmaking to translate everyday images from varying distances, often through the medium of photo mechanical techniques, using feathers and animal hair to achieve detailed textures. This can be seen with the bird and animal prints on display. Other prints in the collection use screenprinting, cut outs and mixed media.
