Destination Sicily

To welcome the sunny season to London this June (we can always hope) Mile High’s ‘cabin crew’ bring you their answer to ‘la dolce vita’ - Destination: Sicily.

Hot on the heels of Gothenburg and Beirut, Mile High returns with an explosion of colour, flavor and music in the heart of West London. The event will take place in a hidden location on South Regent Street, St James’s, part of The Crown Estate’s £500m investment plan for the area. Expect authentic Italian swing in a vibrant and welcoming interior, combined with passionate service and a buzzy atmosphere, influenced by the island’s fiery, volcanic core. The cocktails will be packed with Italian “gusto” - even more refreshing than a Sicilian orange or a morning dip in the Mediterranean - complementing the menu’s light and summery flavors perfectly.

Destination Sicily first opens its doors between 12th - 15th June, with a return trip scheduled from 19th-22nd June 2013.

As part of each guest’s journey, talented ex-Moro chef Oliver Templeton will take you on a four-course culinary voyage to the heart of the island. Drawing on Sicilian cuisine’s Arab, Greek and Spanish influences, the menu will feature an array of authentic dishes with a modern twist. These will include; Swordfish Marinated in Orange and Cinnamon with Fennel and Pine Nuts, Pasta Norma, Slow Roasted Pork Belly with Braised Hispi Cabbage, White Beans and Sicilian Lemon and finally Burnt Peach Gelato with Pistachio Praline and Amaretti Biscotti.

Mile High will also host a final destination in September, Destination: Mozambique, see below for full dates and more details.

Mile High is inspired by the golden age of 1950s air travel, when legroom meant doing the twist and turbulence was a byproduct of the bar steward’s cocktail shaker. On arrival, air hostesses in Pan-Am inspired attire will welcome guests to the departure lounge, home of Mile High’s airborne DJ division. Diners can enjoy ‘check in’ Campari cocktails and gourmet bar snacks served with pencil moustaches and a smile before embarking on Mile High’s chosen foodie destination. Access to the departure lounge bar will be available from 7pm for non-diners to enjoy cocktails and tunes spun by one of Mile High’s talented guest DJs.

Mile High is brought to London by four cousins from the creative Templeton family: Anna, Ollie, Will and Ed who share a wealth of experience from the event, theatre, culinary, cocktail, music and advertising worlds. The Mile High lounge and inflight dining area have then been helped made that extra bit more stylish than your average 1950s Pan Am flight, (if that is even possible), by vintage furniture suppliers, MAR–DEN and one of the UK’s longest surviving bespoke lighting manufacturers, David Hunt Lighting.

So tantalise your taste buds aboard Mile High, with a saucy Sicilian soiree in the sky. Grazie Mille!
