Part of the REVOLUTIONS Season staged by East 15 MA Acting
By Gunter Grass (translation by Ralph Manheim Directed by David Mercatali
Set in Germany in the 1950s, the Boss – a thin disguise for Bertolt Brecht – rehearses Coriolanus until his rehearsal room is filled with workers seeking a spokesman for the Uprising. Witty and fast moving the brilliance of Grass’ humour combines with the eternal themes of revolution in Shakespeare’s play, resonating no less in 1950s Germany than in Egypt, Tunisia or Syria today.
