The National Maritime Museum has joined forces with Camp Bestival to bring you a summer’s night of astro culture with comedy, cocktails, cosmic literature, quizzing and spaced-out DJs to celebrate the opening of Visions of the Universe.
This year the theme for Camp Bestival is Around the World, which they’ve expanded to include the Universe!
Play games with Camp Bestival veterans and purveyors of fun and silliness, Lost and Found, or be part of the ‘studio audience’ for the Astronomy Gameshow with BBC The Sky at Night presenter, Chris Lintott.
Enjoy a literary tour of the Solar System at the launch of a new anthology of contemporary science fiction, The Lowest Heaven. Stay on in the literary salon to chat to the authors and to meet Howard Marks: let Mr Nice take you on a journey from Earth to space with his magical bedtime stories.
Ever wondered what outer space sounds like? Climb aboard for a sonic tour of the Universe with astronomer Marek Kukula and the Guerilla Science team. Further expand your spacey sensorium with the help of the superlative Jellymongers, Bompas and Parr, who will share the secret of how astronauts get plastered in space. Alcoholic Jelly samples will be on offer for the brave.
Create your own space-themed comic with The Phoenix, who are reviving comics with some of the finest work ever to grace paper (and iPads). Enjoy the musings of award-winning comic Helen Keen, who mixes stand-up with science and story-telling, spinning comedy out of such arcane and unlikely subjects as the development of the robot.
Booking is essential.
