Uriah Heep stars turn out for Nightingale Cancer Support in Enfield

Mick Box and Bernie Shaw of Uriah Heep will be guest starring to help the Nightingale Cancer Support Center on the 11th August at the Hilly Fields Band Stand Free Rock Concert, to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Mick and Bernie will perform live, draw a raffle for a Uriah Heep package prize and chat to the fans and sign memorabilia. The concert is free to enter with a £2 suggested donation per adult going to the charity; the event starts at 3.00pm and will finish around 5.30pm.

Lead guitarist Mick and lead vocalist Bernie will be performing alongside a local band The 2FBS, a band who have been keen supporters of The Nightingale playing at various events. The 2FBS will be playing their first set from 3pm-4pm and will then be joined by Mick Box and Bernie Shaw for the second.

Ted Rodgers and Dave Johnson, who head classic rock band The 2FBS, are thrilled to be playing alongside the Uriah Heep legends. Ted has been playing the guitar for 35 years and, after meeting Dave in 1956 and selling him his first guitar, they formed The 2FBS and have played gig after gig ever since.

Mick Box initially contacted the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre in October 2012 as he was looking for a local cancer charity to work with. Mick, throughout his life, has been affected by cancer and he wanted to give something back. His memorabilia auctions on his website are an amazing boost for the charity, and he recently invited Lesa Barker, the Fundraising Manager for The Nightingale, to join the band in Holland for a fan club launch of their European tour dates, where more money and awareness was raised.

During this stage of the tour Trevor Bolder, the longtime bass player for Uriah Heep, was taking time out whilst being treated for pancreatic cancer. Trevor was high in spirits and hoping to be back on tour by June. Sadly this wasn’t to be and Trevor passed away May 2013 aged 62, making the band’s charity efforts even more heartfelt

The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre is delighted that the band have decided to support a local charity to help raise not just money but also awareness. We can't thank them enough for their support and generosity
