A paw-fect day out for families, dogs and dog lovers

For the third year running, Old Spitalfields Market invites families and pooch lovers to the doggy day out of the year this August Bank Holiday; Paw Pageant. The unmissable event will see pooches of all personalities, shapes and sizes hitting the dog walk on Monday, 26thAugust, where doggy dudes will be donning designer fashions to raise funds for Battersea Dog & Cats Home.

The exciting event brings together pet lovers across London to celebrate all that’s best about the capital’s coolest canines, with its famous awards alongside a specialist market showcasing a range of quality canine clobber on offer.

Two tail-wagging shows will take place at the premier East London shopping destination, which is being transformed with a purpose-built runway. During the morning the canine fashion cognoscenti will dazzle the crowds in divine creations from the queen of canine couture, Lilly Shahravesh of LoveMyDog. Each paw-fect pooch will be accompanied on stage by a human consort, modelling collections by NW3, Mischa Barton, Albam, Jigsaw and Oliver Bonas.

After lunch, the stage is set for the public to parade their pampered pets in the annual Paw Pageant awards, which will see cheeky Terriers take on strapping Great Danes to win prizes across eight categories, recognising dogs that are packed full of wit, warmth and personality. One of the highlights of the doggy social calendar, this popular annual family-friendly event is a chance for owners to enter their dogs into one of 6 categories including:

• Dressed up to the (Ca)nines
• Jimmy Chews (the naughtiest dog)
• Six of the best (best owner and dogs legs)
• Mini-mutt (smallest dog in show)
• Maxi-mutt (largest dog in show)
• Paw-fection (best in show)

In addition to the pageant itself, visitors can treat their best friend to goodies from the specialist market, which boasts an assortment of stalls selling fashion and accessories, right through to pet care products, nutritional food and tasty treats, and dog-themed merchandise from the likes of Teddy and Lu, Sniffys and Beach Dog Bakery, to name a few.

It doesn’t stop there, as Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will be on site to provide free micro-chipping and dog tagging to all pet owners. LoveMyDog will also be helping to raise funds for the charity by hosting a raffle, with the chance to win a hamper including £500 worth of products.

Entering a dog in the paw pageant costs only £5 pre-registration and £8 on the day, with all proceeds going to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Attendees that wish to register a pooch should contact Saskia Webster-Zazzi via email on [email protected].
