Italian vocalist Irene Serra is a charismatic performer with a beautiful vocal style and assured stage presence. She sings a great repertoire of jazz, blues, bossa nova, gospel and soul and can be regularly seen in venues in and around London including the Spice Of Life, Ray's Jazz Cafe, Theatre Royal Stratford East and the National Theatre. A thoughtful and intelligent musician she started studying Jazz at the age of 16 with the renowned Italian Jazz singer Tiziana Ghiglioni at the Academy of Music in Milan and moved to London in 1999 to complete a BA in Performing Arts at the University of Surrey, going on to study at Goldsmiths College and then completing a Masters in Music Performance at the Guildhall School Of Music and Drama. Her poised performances have already earned her much critical acclaim - she was one of the semi-finalists in The Brussels International Young Jazz Singer competition in 2008 and was a finalist at the Shure Montreux Jazz Competition in 2009. Suffice it to say I was so impressed with her singing that I have already booked her to perform with my band “Samara” here at the Club on several occasions now. Highly recommended. And don’t forget this is our family gig so children are more than welcome.
“…a charming Italian, singing American popular songs with superb diction and a big voice. And I can say that 'at last' I've heard that song - At Last - sung the way it deserves to be sung! A wonderful afternoon's music, and so unexpected…”
