Roy's Big Smoke Family, the only London band to play real New Orleans funk - bring their rolling pianos, driving horn section and heavy street beats to Ronnie's for the first time.

With one of the biggest line ups yet, this one promises to really get you tapping, snapping and flailing.

Roy’s Big Smoke Family is a funky collective led by drummer Roy Pfeffer. The band play some of the greatest funk to come from New Orleans with original arrangements and a contemporary approach. All the while keeping it finger-snapping good!

The band started from Roy’s desire to pay homage to some of the artists and music he grew up listening to, including the groovy sounds of the New Orleans Funk movement in the 60s and 70s. Our own brand of Funk is played with the warmth of Jazz and the passion of gospel and rhythm and blues.

The Big Smoke Family blows like a Jazz band but plays traditional grooves, putting the main emphasis on a communicative gig. Our sole aim is to get everyone up to dance!

The RBSF have already made serious waves on the UK music scene. As well as having residencies at The Shoreditch, Charlie Wright’s, The Nola, The Archduke and regular appearances at the RichMix, 2012 saw the band play at some of the UK’s hottest festivals including the London Jazz Festival, Bestival and Secret Garden Party.

The band is a totally organic collective, it just keeps growing, and it will only ever get funkier.
