Jazz In The Round

Barrier-busting jazz/ contemporary music binge with Jazz on 3 presenter Jez Nelson. Every last Monday.

If you haven't been to JITR before; we have two short opening sets and then a longer one from our main act. And we have Jez DJing in the bar in the break, as well playing some classic jazz.

This months' performers are:

Christine Tobin and band:

Irish-born singer-songwriter Christine Tobin is based in the UK and her style, although rooted in jazz, is influenced by a diverse range of artists. Much of her repertoire is self-penned and Tobin has received many accolades for her skills as a writer and arranger. She has established a reputation as a unique presence on the jazz scene with original songs, style and interpretative or original lyrics. In 2008 she was named Best Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards.


Phil Minton:

Phil Minton has been singing and playing trumpet in bands since the early 60's. He is a highly dramatic baritone who tends to specialize in literary texts. However it is his extended vocal techniques that he is most famous for. He has an ability to distort his vocal cords to make a huge range of unusual noises!

We're excited to have Gina Southgate as our artist in residence, painting the action as it happens. You can see her work on display in our foyer, on her website, and of course watch her painting live on the night...
