Brighton, 1984. Where do we go from here?

The Bombing of the Grand Hotel

A Tory MP’s daughter seeks inner peace and love
An IRA activist seeks justice for his community.
On October 12th 1984 their worlds collide when a bomb explodes at the Grand Hotel, Brighton.
The play, based on interviews and research, dramatises this iconic event and its aftermath. It traces the stories of IRA bomber Pat Magee and Jo Berry, whose father was killed. In their own ways, both characters want something positive to come from the devastation. But politics, trauma and a sense of betrayal threaten to wreck their chances.
Can enemies work together? Can peace emerge from the long shadow of war?
October 2014 marks the 30th Anniversary of the bombing of the Grand Hotel. This play is a timely exploration of contemporary concerns about conflict and its aftermath .
Written by award winning Brighton playwrights Julie Everton and Josie Melia.
