Young People’s Theatre Company, Kazzum, has created a site-specific show in Oxford House in Bethnal Green, especially for teenage audiences. The show, called Waiting Game, has been inspired by Kazzum’s work with young refugees and new communities in London. The issues are real and the perspectives are firmly those of young people themselves.
Waiting Game tells the story of Sen, a 20 year old asylum seeker who faces being forced to return to her native war torn country: she lost her right to stay in the UK when she turned 18.
Two years of waiting for a decision has left her in despair. She can’t move forward with her life in the UK, but she is terrified of going back to her native country.
Faced with a series of bizarre situations, the audience join Sen as she attempts to negotiate a confusing bureaucratic system. Endless queues, senseless rules and unexpected evictions - these experiences are sometimes comic, and sometimes menacing. Come and play Sen’s Waiting Game.
