Francis Fauquier’s small unassuming portrait in the Picture Gallery gives little hint of his distinguished career. This Foundling Governor was instrumental in involving George Frideric Handel in the Hospital and became one of the last colonial Governors of Virginia, where he befriended the young Thomas Jefferson.
