Accrington was the smallest town in England to raise a volunteer Pals Brigade to fight in World War One and this poignant play centres on the fate of this tight community.

Some 720 men volunteered to form the Accrington Pals. 583 were killed, wounded or reported missing within half an hour during the battle of Serre in 1916. The brutality of the men's experiences on the battlefield is shown alongside the harsh realities of life for the women left behind.

Mothers, wives, daughters and lovers learn to rely on each other for support. Adjusting to working lives without men, they find the courage to challenge the authorities for the truth about their men’s fate.

A No-Man's-Land for everyone, at home as well as on the battlefield.
