Exhibition exploring the works of Catherine Stenger - A former resident and active artist in 1980's Brixton.
Catherine was a mixed media artist who we know very little about. However, we know she was a member of the Brixton 50, a group of artists working in the area during the 1980s.
We will be exhibiting a range of her artwork including portraits of local people, landscapes of Brockwell Park, and more surreal works.
Saving the works:
After her death, Catherine left around fifty - sixty paintings/drawings/ in the dilapidated house she lived in on Arlingford road (near Brockwell Park).
A few tenants who lived in the house for 3 years after her death found the work and saved it from being discarded, when the new owner emptied the house for renovation.
As so little is known about her and her family, through Here Now Then Gallery we have decided to exhibit her work at Brixton East at the beginning of February.
Please come along and see the work of this illusive artist, much of it perhaps never seen in public before!
The exhibition is kindly sponsored by Brierwood Ltd
