Piano Concerto no 1 in B flat minor op 23
For the first orchestral concert of the season, the RCM Philharmonic presents two great works of the late 19th century: Richard Strauss’s expressive tone poem, depicting the final thoughts of a dying hero; plus one of the world’s best-known piano concertos performed by RCM Concerto Competition winner Vitaly Pisarenko – described by the New York Times as an "immensely gifted pianist... with prodigious technique, myriad shadings and scrupulous accuracy".
