Few composers could claim to produce an orchestral staple when they were only 19 years old, however Shostakovich’s first symphony, bursting with the composer’s youthful exuberance, is just that.
The RCM Philharmonic presents this exhilarating work alongside the rousing Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila by fellow Russian composer Mikhail Glinka, and Arutiunian’s virtuosic Trumpet Concerto per formed by Catherine Knight, winner of the RCM Concerto Competition.
