As a young man, born adventurer Pelle Persson set out across the world, escaping the regimented lifestyle of his Swedish village. His travels took him to Pakistan where he met his wife, Shamin, settled down and had two daughters. However, now that the girls are grown up, the Persson family are returning together to the life that Pelle left behind 40 years ago.

For daughters Mia and Zahra, life in Sweden holds an exotic promise of freedom and the independence that they yearn for. But when the family reach their destination, it takes all their reserves of humour and determination to cope with the reality of a very different life in Sweden. While Pelle struggles with the endless red tape and bureaucracy of the welfare system, Shamin and their daughters are getting to grips with a new language and lifestyle, with just as many rules as the society they left behind.

Despite the obstacles, it is the Perssons' trademark warmth and wry humour that shines through in this intimate, tender film, which follows the trepidation of the move, the highs and lows of a new home, and the first years getting accustomed to a new way of life.
