The Pixies’ ‘Doolittle’ stimulated a slew of early nineties indie acts to shape their guitar-led onslaught with more imagination. The Boston quartet culled a sweeping sound from listening to records by Dick Dale, Husker Du, The Beatles and Peter Paul and Mary, but although they harvested from an expansive musical field, they always sounded like The Pixies with Black Francis’ surreal lyrics and the band’s loud-quiet and stop-start dynamics.

Join us to first listen to music that either inspired or was relevant to this LP such as Husker Du, My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana followed by the story of the album presented by Domino Records' Paul Briggs. Then the lights go down, the volume goes up and we play the album from beginning to end on vinyl on our audiophile hi-fi. Listening guidelines apply.

Audio Menu: Dynavector D17D3 MC Cartridge, Rega P9 Turntable, Klimax DSM with Preamp, Linn Klimax Solo Power Amps, Chord Signature Speaker Cable, Chord Signature Tuned Aray interconnects, ISOL-8 Substation Integra Power Conditioner and Bowers & Wilkins 802 Diamond Loudspeakers
