About The Amadou Diagne Band
After years backing such luminaries as Youssou N’Dour and Cesaria Evora L'Orchestre Nationale du Senegal as a percussionist Amadou Diagne has branched out as a songwriter in his own right, delivering soulful, bluesy songs with an honest intensity that reflect on the joys and hardships of life. His ‘honey-smoked’ vocals have a beautiful rich tone that can soar from a deep bass to a breathy falsetto in one exquisite phrase. He sings in English, French and Wolof, the language of his homeland in Senegal, West Africa. Amadou’s background as a percussionist has led to him developing a unique guitar style, which shifts from traditional African blues to an awe-inspiring display of percussive artistry. He is accompanied by the ethereal tones of the Swedish nyckelharpa and violin played by Griselda Sanderson. The group was supported on a recent tour by PRS Foundation for Music, and with the addition of Daniel Gerrard’s virtuosic guitar playing and African percussion their energy and dynamism has delighted audiences around the UK. They have been performing in the Jazz Cafe, London, Jamboree London, Bath Folk Festival, The Canteen in Bristol, amongst more and toured as part of the PRSF funded rural tour of SW England.
