Did you know that the painter Turner strapped himself to a boat in a terrible storm so that he could then paint it? Have fun expressing yourself by making large-scale sea paintings using lively brushwork and colour variations. This workshop will reference the Turner exhibition at the Maritime Museum, Greenwich.

Mermaids and Monsters of the Deep: Emerging from the Underworld
Wednesday 28th May
Explore the imaginings of the deep through the eyes of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Create giant creatures in card & thin foam, use an overhead projector to create a hanging mobile jelly fish. Or look to the Gods and sculpt Neptune, the God of the Sea, with his trident and a beautiful mermaid with flowing green hair.

Seaside Printing
Thursday 29th May
A day at the seaside is all about fun and seeing what you can find hidden in the rocks, buried in the sand or resting on the seabed. Using found objects such as string and shells this workshop will focus on printing and experimentation. You will learn how to mono-print and etch on pvc sheets and get the chance to use a real etching press. Use your prints to build a collage picture that reflects your fun at the seaside.
Materials: paper/ water based inks / string/ sand/ pvc sheets/foam board/ card

Pirates & Scenic Skills
Friday 30th May
Learn to make costumes and props; treasure boxes, pirate hats, swords and hooks. Enjoy a face painting lesson; learn to create a skull face, scars and other facial effects.
Materials: fabric/ card /armature wire / foam material/wire mesh / face paint
Techniques: 3 d design /sculptural construction / face painting techniques
