Please come and join us for Riverford's Big City Dig at Camley Street Natural Park where we will be inviting guests to get involved with the Big Worm Dig, a citizen science project aiming to collect information about the species of earthworms prevalent in the UK. With free Big Worm Dig kits provided at the event, earthworm experts and the Riverford team will be on hand to show adults and children alike how to collect these vital insights.

Earthworms are incredibly important to gardening and farming alike, acting like mini tractors mixing the soil. Currently very little is known about the British earthworm population but with your help we can change that and begin to establish a clearer and much bigger picture. So please come along and get digging for a fun educational half term activity perfect for a family day out.

The results collected on the day will be uploaded to the Big Worm Dig website, alongside national results from other participants. The final results will be revealed in September after scientific analysis.

If you cannot make it to the Big Worm Dig in London then please get involved at home. From Monday 26th May to Sunday 1st June, Riverford is hoping to get as many people as possible to take part in its Big Worm Dig survey. Using the handy booklet available through their website, simply dig a small patch of soil in your garden, identify the worms you find with their easy key and upload results to the Big Worm Dig website.
