In between performances, East London’s very own Jerome Anderson will be teaching the crowd how to perfect the Jive, Lindy Hop and the Charleston. He has travelled the world performing at festivals and events, rubbing shoulders with some of the best performers from the world of Swing.

The event gives a nod to the marketplace itself, a true gem of the old East End. Created in 1951 at the height of the Swing movement in Britain, it was built as a ‘living architecture’ element of the 1951 Festival of Britain. It was designed by Frederick Gibbard and was the first pedestrianised shopping centre of its kind in the UK.

Entertainment will run from 12noon until 6pm and entry is free.

Swing East is organised in association with Poplar Harca.
