And bringing our mini Brazilian festival to a close is an appearance from a band led by the great Brazilian singer Liliana Chachian. Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Liliana is generally recognized as one of the finest Brazilian singers in Europe. This enormously experienced performer’s work as both singer and composer, has led her to collaborations with the likes of the iconic Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira and Weather Report’s drummer Dom Um Romao as well as work with artists such as The Pet Shop Boys, Masters at work (N.Y.) and Snow Boy. She co-wrote the 1st “Da Lata” album (“ Songs from the Tin”) that took her on an extensive world tour, performing in major festivals and venues from New York’s Central Park to China, Japan, Canada, South Africa and most countries in Europe. With her bass player and co-band member from “Negrocan” Andy Lafone, she co-wrote and performed on three albums culminating in a Billboard nomination for the single ‘Cada Vez’. She delivers a powerful, rhythmic set in her native Brazilian Portuguese, in a way in that only a Brazilian brought up with the music since childhood can achieve. Tonight, Liliana is bringing her latest project “Olumo” to the Club, which features some of the finest musicians in the UK, the great Neil Angilley on piano, Uruguayan bass player Andy Lafone, Italian drummer Davide Giovannini, Chilean percussionist Carlos Fuentes and the terrific Finn Peters on sax and flute. The music will be primarily Liliana’s originals plus the occasional classic Brazilian song and is both melodic and exciting and has been aptly described as “A journey through rich and musically influential cultures”. “Olumo”, incidentally, is the name of a huge rock in Abeokuta, Nigeria, that represents solidarity, strength and reliability. Highly recommended. “Liliana Chachian…the melodious and brilliant Brazilian vocalist” Straight no Chaser
