Business Week is an annual series of lectures, interactive panels, films and events organised by the School of Business, Economics and Informatics (Birkbeck, University of London) and this year our theme is ‘From London to Rio – the business and politics of mega sport events’.

Bringing together a mixture of academics and business leaders from a range of backgrounds, over the 4 days (23-26 June), we will showcase current research and debate the management, psychological and economic legacies of sporting events including the impact of digital communications and the application of sporting lessons to business performance.

The subjects of the main lectures, and the keynote speakers, are:

• The impact of digital technology and social media on sport, 6pm, Monday 23 June - Richard Ayers, founder and CEO of Seven League, a digital media firm with a specialism in sport

• What can business learn from sport? 7:15pm, Tuesday 24 June - Adrian Moorhouse MBE, Olympic gold medallist and Managing Director of management consultancy Lane4

• Economic regeneration and the impact of major sporting events, 6pm, Wednesday 25 June - Neale Coleman CBE, Deputy Chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation

• From Club to Country: a twenty-year journey in football, 6:30pm, Thursday 26 June - David Bernstein CBE, former Chairman of the Football Association.

Professor Philip Powell, Pro Vice-Master (Enterprise and Innovation) and Executive Dean, School of Business, Economics and Informatics, Birkbeck, welcomes you to this year's event: “Our academics and keynote speakers will provide insight and commentary as well as posing thought-provoking questions on the legacy of sporting events. Whether you are a business professional, prospective student, current or former student, or simply a sports fan, please come and join us to learn, challenge, reflect and enjoy.”
