The Charterhouse will open its doors to the community for a Tudor-themed fête right in the heart of London. The Charterhouse is one of London’s best preserved examples of a Tudor mansion and operates to this day as a charitable almshouse.

Located just a stone’s throw from Smithfield market and right in the bustle of Clerkenwell, this historic treasure will play host to a traditional summer fête, complete with Morris dancers, folk crafts and even a Punch and Judy show for the kids! One for the family, this is a real opportunity to step back in time in unique surroundings.

The free-to-enter celebration will raise awareness of the Charterhouse’s fundraising programme to create a permanent public display of artefacts in partnership with the Museum of London.

English actor Hugh Fraser, famous for his portrayal of Captain Arthur Hastings in Agatha Christie’s Poirot, will be there to open the event on the day, reprising a role he made his own while filming the series on location at Florin Court in Charterhouse Square.

The Charterhouse fête has been put together as a real community effort. Local pupils at Charterhouse Square School took part in a competition to design the advertising poster and neighbouring pub the Fox and Anchor and Malmaison Hotel will be serving up traditional British treats.
