Battle Bridge at King's Cross

As warriors approach, King’s Cross prepares for a free two-day festival taking place in and around Granary Square. Things will kick off on Friday night with Roman-themed film screenings, making way for the main events taking place on Saturday and Sunday with everything from re-enacted battles and gladiator workshops, to Roman rat-catching (urgh!). Prizes are on offer for the best dressed Roman – but beware the mighty Boudicca!

Battle Bridge will plunge visitors into the heart of a Roman village, complete with interactive props and famous Roman characters such as the mighty centurions. Visitors are encouraged to come meet these personalities and explore the history through a series of performances, workshops, games and installations. With everything from Roman slaves and centurions, to activities such as hair braiding, live performances and mosaic making.

Twice a day Boudicca will lead a surprise attack from King’s Cross station, gathering supporters along the way for an attack on the Roman Forum. Those not wishing to take part in a full invasion can enjoy a number of other activities, including taking a dip in a Roman style bath, attending Gladiator school….or perhaps a Roman dance-off is more your style?

A traditional Roman home will also be recreated on site, transforming modern-day King’s Cross into a hive of activity. Families will be able to learn how to braid hair, dress up like a real Roman or even leant the art of Roman mosaic-making. Adults will also be able to get stuck into the more relaxed activities with Roman inspired cocktails on offer throughout the day. KERB will be ensuring that not a belly goes unfilled – as they provide a Roman feast of food in Granary Square.
